Legionella Treatment for Hotels
Whether you operate a business hotel or a holiday hotel, being infected with Legionella bacteria from the water system will be as devastating as being invaded by a plague of rats. The ultimate sanction of major tour operators who feel that hotel owners do not take sufficient steps to safeguard holiday makers and business people from Legionnaires Disease is to stop using their hotel and allow them to close down, possibly permanently. Many hotels have suffered from Legionella bacteria colonising cooling towers, hot and cold water services and in some cases in the misting jets used to keep the salad bar display looking fresh!
A number of hotels that have been affected by Legionnaires Disease have been listed on an international Legionella website, thus ensuring widespread adverse publicity. Not all hotels are located in city centres with good quality main water supplies, some are in more remote locations where water is supplied from a bore hole or a poorly treated reservoir. In hot climates the cold water may be above 20°C (68°F) which will encourage the growth of legionella and other water-borne bacteria. Hotels specialising in business use may be nearly empty at weekends whilst holiday hotels have periods of under-utilisation in the off-season. This changes water usage patterns and some rooms, showers, outlets etc may not be used for many days. This allows bacteria, including Legionella, to grow in stagnant water in the pipework. Tarn-PureTM Silver/Copper ionization systems inject low levels of positively charged ions (within EEC, WHO and USA Drinking Water Standards) that permeate the whole water system. Following installation of the system the biofilm (slime that harbours and protects Legionella) that clings to the inside of the pipes will begin to break-up and disintegrate. Once this process is complete the residual disinfection of Tarn-PureTM will reach and protect all outlets, even through many periods of low use.
